Swedish Fika

Scandinavian cooking holidays

Swedish `fika´ is a classic part of everyday life. The majority of work places stop for morning and afternoon fika. Fika is a bit undefined but generally includes coffee and something to eat. The eating part could be crisp bread with butter and cheese or a cinnamon bun. To meet a friend over “a fika” means having a nice chat. The Swedes absolutely love their coffee. In the olden days women met to drink coffee and eat 7 (!) different types of biscuits and cakes. So it is not an exaggeration to say that “fika” plays an important part in everyday life in Sweden. The word “fika” is itself a unique word, which is not found in any other language.
